Re-introducing…..Womankind Worldwide

In no country in the world do women enjoy the same rights or opportunities as men.

They are married as children, denied education and access to reproductive and maternal healthcare, disproportionately affected by poverty and subjected to physical and sexual abuse (a third of all women around the world will experience violence during their lifetime).

Womankind Worldwide focusses on achieving transformational change toward: a just world where the rights of all women are respected, valued and realised.

With nearly 30 years’ experience, they have proved that securing the rights of women happens most effectively and sustainably when it is locally owned and driven.

Since their launch on International Women’s Day in 1989, Womankind Worldwide have worked with inspiring, courageous women leaders and women-led organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America, who have come together – often at great personal risk – to challenge violence, political and economic exclusion and discrimination in their community.   And – as Revolution in Kindness (formerly know asThe Body Shop Foundation) – we were with them on this incredible journey since Womankind’s earliest beginnings.

“Womankind walks with us, showing us direction, providing guidance, which is a partnership”   Respondent to Womankind’s anonymised annual partner feedback survey

In 2015/16, they reached an impressive 110,810 women and girls with direct support: from a secure place at a Safe House to business skills training. Beyond this, they reached over 13 million women, girls, men and boys with awareness raising on women’s rights and changes to laws, policies and practices – truly impressive figures and impact.

However, Womankind have BIG plans.

Over the next five years, they will expand their support for the tireless and tenacious women’s rights organisations and women’s movements in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nepal, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.   Our funding of £25,000 goes towards helping these projects realise their potential.

Womankind Worldwide:  proving categorically that when women support each other, incredible things happen.
