Re-introducing…..Plastic Soup Foundation

More and more plastic waste is ending up in our oceans and seas.  The oceans occupy 72% of the earth’s surface and they are our principal source of oxygen.

The facts on plastic pollution are truly horrific.   Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.  Of this, 50% of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw away which means that.  Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times.

Plastic in ocean environments is deadly for many marine animals as plastic does not degrade biologically.  One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans.

Due to the effects of weathering, sunlight and wave action, this plastic reduces into smaller particles, which in turn leads to serious pollution.

The other issue with plastic pollution is that when the plastic fragments into smaller micro, particles, it is often mistaken for food by organisms, fish and mammals. This results in the toxic waste entering our food chain.

Which is why we are so proud to support Plastic Soup Foundation and their campaigning and raising awareness.

They work determinedly to end the increasing pollution levels with innovative solutions which help tackle the causes of ‘plastic soup’ (the plastic debris on the surface and micro plastics floating through the ocean).  They also work on the development of a Plastic Footprint for companies as well as smart devices which collect plastic in waterways.

Their incredible campaign ‘Beat the Microbead’ is supported by 88 NGO’s in 38 countries including China, South Korea and Taiwan.  Their app has been launched in 12 languages and downloaded 167,000 times.  Their tireless awareness raising of organisations and brands that still use microbeads in their products culminated with Barack Obama signing a ban on microbeads in the USA December 2015.  This also prompted many other governments around the world to promise to pass legislation that will ban plastic beads in cosmetics forever.

Their next two campaigns Ocean Clean Wash and Plastic Ocean, Plastic Human continue to push brands and companies to get on board and be part of the serene, clean, ocean dream.

Top, top work Plastic Soup.   We couldn’t be more proud to fund and support your work.
