Re-introducing Animal Free Research UK (formerly known as Dr Hadwen Trust)
promoting the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of animals in biomedical research
At least 115 million animals may be used in experiments worldwide every year and sadly, these experiments – despite popular opinion – are not in decline.
Figures suggest that the top 10 animal testing countries in the world are the USA, Japan, China, Australia, France, Canada, the UK, Germany, Taiwan and Brazil, in that order.
Animal experiments are cruel, unreliable and even dangerous. According to research, 95% of drugs fail in human trails despite promising results in animal tests – whether on safety grounds or because they do not work.
The odd thing is that animal testing doesn’t continue because its more scientific – it continues because it’s easier to do because, well, “we’ve always done it”. Alternatives to animal testing are often cheaper, quicker and yes, let’s be honest, more effective.
Animal Free Research UK (formerly known as Dr Hadwen Trust) is the UKs’s leading non-animal research charity. They fund and promote the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of animals in biomedical research.
Our funding of £40,000 will allow them to continue research projects across the UK which are leading to breakthrough in medical device testing and brain tumour research – all without the aid of any misery, abuse and pain caused to animals in the process. Which we can’t helping thinking is £40,000 very well spent indeed.
