Re-introducing…..Basel Action Network
Laying waste to those creating e-waste
We found out about Basel Action Network (BAN) back in 2015 and have been huge fans of their work ever since.
BAN’s mission is to champion global environmental health and justice by ending toxic trade, ensuring a toxic-free future and campaigning for everyone’s right to a clean environment.
And you know, the world makes A LOT of e-waste. When electronics end up in landfills, toxics like lead, mercury and cadmium seep into the surrounding soil and water. It’s a HUGE issue; more than 20 million tons of e-waste are produced every year.
So, thank heavens for BAN. They work hard and tackle two toxic waste streams covered by the Basel Convention, namely:
- Electronic waste (e-waste) – the fastest growing waste stream globally
- End of life ships (like the cargo ships that carry our goods)
In doing this, they prevent pollution dumping on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.
Our grant to this tiny but brilliant team – headed up by the awesome Jim Puckett – ensures that they will fight against the new global e-waste urgencies and ensure that electronics are properly and safely recycled or up-cycled into new products – all across the world.
Nice one, Jim and BAN. Way to go. Funding from us of £50,000 is coming your way to help out with your challenge.
